In addition to vocational training, banking apprenticeships strive to provide banking expertise and interpersonal skills. During their three-year dual apprenticeship (bank employee and office manager), apprentices will have the opportunity of getting to know different departments and sections of Austrian Post and will benefit from these experiences in their future career as bank employees.

Current plans include providing apprenticeship opportunities at postal branches and subsidiaries in Vienna (Vienna and surrounding areas). Eventually, this programme will be expanded to the entire country of Austria.

In Austria, apprenticeships consist of two main areas of study (dual system):

• Education at the vocational school, with the following objectives:

                - broadening students’ general knowledge
                - expanding on the knowledge acquired at their employer’s company 
                - learning theoretical background information about the banking industry

• Training at the employer’s company

The training at the company is intended to build on what apprentices learn at the vocational school. In addition, apprentices will have the opportunity to gain work experience. For this purpose, apprentices participate in a job rotation programme that includes different jobs in the corporation, which allows them to get to know different administrative areas and business divisions.

Also, apprenticeships’ goals are furthering apprentices’ communication skills and interaction abilities, flexibility, creative thinking and the ability to see things in context.

Austrian Post AG believes in providing perspectives and goals for the future to teenagers. This will enable them to work independently and to focus on customer orientation. This apprenticeship will allow apprentices to fully identify with the company and explore opportunities of working  interesting jobs at the corporation after finishing their training.

Applications will be accepted between November and February every year.

Programme overview:
  
1st apprenticeship year:  Main focus – communication skills etc.
In their first year, apprentices will work in three different positions for a period of 4 months each (specialized divisions at BAWAG PSK at departments of the branch network division). In addition, apprentices will participate in in-house seminars in the first year of their apprenticeship.

2nd apprenticeship year: Main focus – basic knowledge about main products, basic teller’s skills etc.
In their second year, apprentices will work in two to three different positions at postal branches and at BAWAG branches. During this time, they will perform general teller’s tasks at the Austrian Post and the PSK Bank counters and they will also provide customer service. In addition, the apprentices will also participate in in-house seminars during the second year of their apprenticeships.
 
3rd apprenticeship year: Main focus – preparation for final apprenticeship exam etc.
In their third year, apprentices will work in two or three different positions at postal branches. Their tasks will include working at the PSK Bank counter and in customer service. In addition, apprentices will also participate in in-house seminars.

In accordance with each apprentice’s personal strengths and skills, but also on internal needs, they will either work at a postal branch or at a department at the headquarters.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for open-minded applicants with good communication skills who are interested in the banking and finance industries, highly dedicated and willing to learn. A diploma of mandatory education is required for this position. Applicants must be under 18 years of age. We offer thorough training to become a bank employee.
